Education and qualifications


Widely acknowledged as a leading litigator in the Asia Pacific region, Gavin advises well known financial institutions, funds and corporates in connection with investigations and proceedings by agencies in Hong Kong (including those by the Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Commercial Crime Bureau and the Independent Commission Against Corruption), and in the wider Asia region (including in Australia, India, Japan, Korea, the PRC, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand). Recognised as a leading litigator and contentious regulatory lawyer (Top Tier) in Chambers Asia, he has particular expertise in investigations involving insider dealing, market manipulation, mis-selling and anti-corruption.

Gavin also advises clients on complex commercial disputes, including disputes involving asset recovery, contractual duties, mis-selling, enforcement of security, joint ventures, creditor and shareholder disputes and disciplinary matters.  

Gavin often works in close collaboration with lawyers from the firm’s other market-leading practice areas, including Corporate, Capital Markets, Banking, and Financial Regulation, in cross-office, multidisciplinary teams.

Gavin was a managing director responsible for litigation and regulatory inquiries in Asia Pacific at UBS from 2006 to 2008.

Gavin has been awarded the Client Choice Award 2018 − Hong Kong Litigation.

Education and qualifications

Gavin studied English literature and French at Durham University.
