Overview

Jonathan is a Counsel in our competition practice and has extensive experience across a range of competition issues, including multi-jurisdictional and UK merger control, complex antitrust issues and State aid. Jonathan has advised a number of companies in relation to competition investigations conducted by the FCA, the CMA and the European Commission. Jonathan advises companies across a diverse range of sectors, including financial services, pharmaceuticals and utilities.

Work highlights

Jonathan’s experience includes advising:

  • Teva/IVAX in relation to the CMA’s high profile pay for delay investigation into paroxetine
  • Centrica plc in the CMA’s market investigation into retail and wholesale energy supply
  • Anglo American/Tarmac on their UK construction materials joint venture with Lafarge
  • a Member State on its Phase II State aid investigation regarding a capital injection into a project in the energy sector

Professional experience

Jonathan joined Linklaters in 2010 as an Associate in our Competition/Antitrust practice. In 2015 he was made up to Managing Associate and has been a Counsel since May 2019.

Jonathan spent six months seconded to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

Education and qualifications

Jonathan attended Edinburgh University from 2002-2006, where he completed a Bachelor of Law degree. In 2007, he graduated from Aberdeen University with a Diploma in legal practice. Jonathan also holds a postgraduate diploma in competition law from Kings College London.
