Nicki currently heads the Capital Markets and Banking Group in which he has been a partner since April 2006.
He practises in banking and finance matters, including credit and security taking, real estate financing, as well as restructuring and insolvency matters.
Nicki’s practice also covers capital markets, primarily concentrating on debt instruments. Nicki has specialist expertise in derivatives products, securitisations, repackagings, fiduciary structures, LPNs and generally all types of debt securities issues. He also advises regularly on prospectus, market abuse and transparency obligation laws, EMIR and other regulatory matters in the capital markets space. He has advised entities in the FinTech sector notably on payment solutions and on securitisation transactions. Nicki has also advised banks and corporations on electronic signature.
Nicki is a member of the CSSF’s Capital Markets Committee and sits on several other industry committees in the financial sector. Nicki is a member of the board of LuxCMA, the Luxembourg Capital Markets Association.
Furthermore, he is a member of the board of the Association Luxembourgeoise des Juristes de Droit Bancaire (ALJB) (the Luxembourg Association of Banking Lawyers) and a member of the editorial committee of the legal journal published by the ALJB.
Nicki has been involved on many important finance transactions. These include advising:
- A Swiss insurance group: advising on its 2.75% Fixed to Fixed rate Guaranteed Subordinated Bonds due 2041 the proceeds from the Issue will be used by the Issuer to provide financial capacity for the acquisition of equity stakes in a major Spanish player in the non-life insurance market and for general corporate purposes.
- The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: advising an international banking group on the Luxembourg Sovereign State`s issue of €1.7bn Bonds 0.0% Fixed Rate Bonds due on 13 November 2026.
- One the world's largest life and health reinsurer: advising on the issue of US$ 1bn Guaranteed Subordinated Fixed Rate Reset Step-up Callable Notes due in 2049 listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange by a Luxembourg subsidiary guaranteed by the world’s leading reinsurance company.
- CBRE Global Investors Open-ended Funds S.C.A. SICAV-SIF in relation to its debut issue of €500,000,000 0.5% Green Bonds due 2028. The Bonds were issued by the Fund in respect of its compartment, CBRE Global Investors Open-ended Funds S.C.A SICAV-SIF-Pan European Core Fund (also known as the PEC Fund).
Nicki studied for a degree in law at the University of Luxembourg and has Masters degrees from the University of Paris and Cambridge University.
He speaks English, French, German and Luxembourgish.
