Overview

Phill advises underwriters and issuers on a broad range of international capital markets transactions and products. He has specialist knowledge of medium term note programmes, straight debt issues, convertible and exchangeable bonds, liability management exercises, green bonds and regulatory capital transactions. He has particular expertise in Islamic finance and sukuk issues.

Before moving to Singapore, Phill was based in the firm’s offices in Tokyo (2003-2005), London (2001-2003, 2006-2007 and 2008-2009) and Moscow (2007-2008).

Work Highlights

Phill has worked on many market-leading transactions. These include advising on:

  • issue of S$154m convertible bonds and S$150m exchangeable bonds by OUE Limited
  • establishment of a US$1bn multicurrency debt issuance programme by DBS Trustee (in its capacity as trustee of Manulife US Real Estate Investment Trust)
  • tender offer by Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company for its outstanding US$300m notes and concurrent US$300m new issuance
  • issue of US$500m senior notes by Adani Ports
  • issue of US$320.8m exchangeable trust certificates by Cindai Capital with recourse to Khazanah Nasional Berhad
  • issue of US$400m perpetual capital securities by Royal Capital guaranteed by International Container Terminal Services

Phill studied modern languages at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford.
