Linklaters is delighted to announce that Mark Gordon will join the firm in New York as managing partner of the Americas and co-chair of global M&A. Joining from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, he is a leading dealmaker in the U.S., bringing more than 30 years of experience advising on the market’s most strategically significant and high-value transactions.
Aedamar Comiskey, senior partner and chair, said:
“We have a clear ambition: to build a top-tier team in the U.S. as a core part of our global offering. As a preeminent M&A lawyer, Mark joining us is a landmark advance toward this ambition. Alongside our other recent strategic hires, we will use this momentum to accelerate our U.S. growth.”
George Casey, chair of the Americas and global chair of corporate, said:
“We are creating something distinctive in the market: elite U.S. capability, fully integrated with an unparalleled global platform. Mark’s decision to join the firm is a major step for our U.S. M&A practice and I look forward to working with him.”
Simon Branigan, global head of corporate, said:
“Mark adds significant senior firepower to our U.S. and global M&A practice. He is an exceptional addition to our team and will enhance our ability to advise clients on their most significant boardroom matters.”
Mark succeeds Tom McGrath as managing partner of the Americas at the conclusion of Tom’s very successful term. Since FY22, Linklaters has grown its U.S. partnership by more than 75% with the addition of elite teams across M&A, litigation, and finance, and more than doubled revenue and quadrupled profits in the U.S.
Mark will work closely with Linklaters’ senior leadership team to build on that progress and drive Linklaters’ next phase of growth in the U.S. Mark continues a series of high-impact partner additions in the past two months alone, including a top strategic litigation and sports sector team led by Chris Boehning, Dan Levi, and César Rivière from Paul Weiss, and Johnson & Johnson’s global litigation head Erik Haas.
Mark has an impressive track record across complex cross-border M&A transactions, shareholder activism, and takeover defense. A trusted boardroom adviser to major global companies, he counsels clients across sectors including healthcare, technology, mining, industrials, and energy.
Some of his notable representations include The AZEK Company in its $8.75 billion acquisition by James Hardie Industries; Alexion Pharmaceuticals in its $39 billion sale to AstraZeneca; and Analog Devices in its $21 billion acquisition of Maxim Integrated Products and its $14.8 billion acquisition of Linear Technology.
Mark will start at Linklaters in November.
Linklaters combines elite U.S. M&A capability with one of the world’s leading global M&A practices. With more than 650 M&A lawyers globally, the firm is consistently ranked Band 1 by Chambers. In the U.S., Linklaters is building a transactional powerhouse for domestic and cross-border transactions, with recent mandates for Dow, Atlantic Alumina, Rio Tinto, Dover, Glencore, BASF, Volkswagen, Unilever, Tate & Lyle, Liberty Global, Chefs’ Warehouse, La Caisse, Desjardins, and more.
