Overview

Rowland advises on the full range of restructuring and insolvency transactions, including complex multi-jurisdictional restructurings, schemes of arrangement, contingency planning, security enforcements and distressed M&A transactions for all participants, including creditors (including banks and credit funds), corporates and insolvency office holders.

Rowland has significant experience acting for companies, private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies, advising boards on strategy and complex workouts. He has a track record of working with credit funds in special situations. He has worked across a range of sectors, with significant experience in restructurings in the energy, infrastructure and consumer sectors.

Rowland was seconded to the European special situations group of a leading global investment bank for seven months in 2019.

Work highlights

Rowland has advised on a number of market-leading restructuring and insolvency mandates. These include advising:

  • MGT Teesside: advising the creditors (banks and funds) on the ongoing restructuring of MGT Teesside.
  • Naviera Armas: advising on the full balance sheet restructuring of Mediterranean ferry group Naviera Armas.
  • EnerMech: advising on the recapitalisation of the corporate and capital structure of this UK based oilfield services group.
  • New Look: advising the fashion retailer on its debt and equity restructuring involving RCF lenders and bondholders.
  • Norske Skog Group: advising on its attempts to secure a consensual restructuring of the group’s balance sheet by way of an exchange offer and consent solicitations, and subsequent distressed M&A to a credit fund.
  • Abengoa: advising on a restructuring which reduced the group’s pre-structuring corporate indebtedness from €8.9bn to €2.6bn.

Professional experience

Rowland gave a presentation on Spanish restructurings to the industry body, R3, in November 2016.

Rowland is involved in East London Business Alliance, which aims to bring about positive change in east London and beyond by connecting the public, private and voluntary sectors. Rowland is a passionate advocate for social mobility.

Education and qualifications

Rowland studied law at Wadham College, University of Oxford.
