Overview

Sophia is a senior lawyer with almost fifteen years’ experience in financial structuring and regulation. In recent years, her focus has been on fintech and, in particular, the use of innovative technologies in capital markets and payments arrangements. 

Within this area, Sophia writes briefings, develops thought-leadership and delivers training. She is also heavily engaged in efforts to shape related law and policy. She has co-authored articles for the Capital Markets Law Journal and the Butterworths Journal of International Banking and Financial Law, participates in various industry working groups and regularly contributes to market initiatives, such as:

  • Supporting ISDA with the development of its whitepaper on contractual standards for digital asset derivatives 
  • Responses to consultations by the Law Commission of England and Wales on smart contracts, electronic trade documents and digital assets
  • Various industry responses to the UK government’s consultation on the regulation of stable tokens and cryptoassets
  • Responses to the European Commission’s targeted consultations on the Settlement Finality Directive and Financial Collateral Directive
  • Supporting Digital Asset with a whitepaper on the legal and regulatory underpinning of a collateral management tool based on its smart contract technology

Education and qualifications

Sophia studied law at University College London and then at the College of Law, London.
