Linklaters wins IFLR Asia’s M&A Deal of the Year

Linklaters was recognised for its high-quality work in India as it picked up IFLR Asia’s M&A Deal of the Year award last night for Rosneft’s acquisition of Essar Oil Limited.

The acquisition was the single largest foreign investment deal in the Indian refining sector and the largest Russian out-bound M&A deal. The acquisition gives Rosneft access to the Vadinar oil refinery, one of the most sophisticated refineries in the Asia-Pacific region, and a vast network of 2.7 thousand Essar-branded retail outlets across India.

The Linklaters team was led by Corporate partners Savi Hebbur and Grigory Gadzhiev. The team worked closely with our best friend firm, Talwar, Thakore & Associate (TT&A) on the transaction.

Savi Hebbur, Corporate partner, says, “This is a very significant deal for the market not least because of the complexities due to reorganisations, distressed debt, sanctions and delistings.

We are thrilled the deal has won the award as it demonstrates the team’s strength and capability to work on multifaceted and cross-border India-related transactions.”

Linklaters recently won the International Law Firm of the Year for India award at the Chambers Asia-Pacific Awards 2018 and was ranked in the RSG 2017 survey as being the international firm with the most robust India practice. The ranking was based on interviews with a wide range of buyers of legal services and Indian law firms.
