Linklaters Recognized as a Global Legal Powerhouse by Law360

Linklaters has once again been ranked as a top global law firm by U.S. legal publication Law360 in its annual ‘Global 20’ list of law firms with the greatest global reach and expertise.

The leading firms were selected based on the breadth, volume, and sophistication of their cross-border work, as well as their presence outside their home countries.

Tom Shropshire, Global Head of the firm’s U.S. practice commented:

“You don’t get to work on complex transactions unless you have really highly skilled and qualified local capabilities. We make sure that on a domestic basis we have top lawyers in that jurisdiction.”

According to Law360, Linklaters secured its reputation as a global legal powerhouse when advising Linde AG as lead strategic counsel on global antitrust matters in a US$90bn merger of equals with Praxair Inc. that closed in October. The transaction created the world's largest industrial gas company, and it called upon a core Linklaters team in New York and Brussels to act as global lead on the transaction, which was filed in 24 jurisdictions in the United States, the European Union, China, India and elsewhere.

The article further notes that Linklaters has been adding to its strong global team with new hires in London, Washington, D.C., Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Milan and the creation of a new office in Hamburg in 2018.

Wolfgang Sturm, corporate partner in the firm’s new Hamburg office commented:

“The recruitment market here in Hamburg is absolutely perfect. It’s the most attractive city in Germany where young lawyers want to live. ... It’s a tough environment because many law firms have moved into Hamburg over the last couple of years, but we are optimistic that we’ll make inroads into Hamburg.”
