Alexandros heads the German Dispute Resolution Group including the Global Energy Dispute Team. He is widely regarded as a leading litigation and arbitration lawyer with a special focus on disputes in the energy sector (e.g. long-term supply agreements, price adjustments, hardship clauses and regulatory issues) as well as construction, commercial and corporate disputes. He also has a wealth of experience in mass actions, insolvency disputes and post-M&A claims.

Alexandros acts as counsel and arbitrator and has conducted many ad hoc and institutional arbitrations under the rules of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI) and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). He is also a certified mediator and well versed in alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

Alexandros is based in the firm’s Frankfurt office and has also spent significant periods of time in the firm’s Munich and Berlin offices.

Work highlights 

Alexandros has advised major clients on a wide range of disputes. These include representing:

  • Uniper Energy Sales in several proceedings relating to long-term power purchase agreements (virtual power plants and asset backed power supply agreements
  • the Federal Republic of Germany in arbitration proceedings against the Toll Collect Consortium and Toll Collect arising from the delay in launching the HGV toll system, with more than €9bn in dispute
  • a leading German photovoltaic company in ICC/ADR proceedings against a Chinese supplier about supply agreements for solar wafers and photovoltaic modules with US$6bn in dispute
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers, as the administrators of Lehman Brothers International (Europe), in a dispute with Bankhaus, as the administrators of Lehman Brothers in Germany, for repayment of US$1bn
  • Engie in the enforcement of claims for damages and contractual penalties against a Japan-based general contractor due to the delayed erection and commissioning of a coal-fired power plant in Germany
  • GDF Suez in its defence against an action for price adjustment and declaration of nullity under a long-term gas supply agreement
  • an international oil company in the arbitral enforcement of claims under an oil supply agreement against the state of Eritrea
  • several gas and electricity grid operators in regulatory appeal proceedings against the reduction of grid fees by the national and state regulatory authorities

 Alexandros is a member of the German Bar Association and all major arbitration institutions.
