Nick trained at Linklaters, and has completed two six-month secondments to the Singapore office. He has a broad international practice which covers M&A, people-related investigations and litigation, and day-to-day HR and employment law advice.

As a Solicitor-Advocate, Nick has a strong track-record advising clients on bringing and defending high-value and reputationally-sensitive claims, as well as on contentious regulatory investigations. He has successfully acted on various employment tribunal and High Court claims. As well as taking cases to full hearing, Nick has experience of using alternative dispute resolution (including mediation). His work often involves co-ordinating closely with clients and their PR advisers on crisis and reputation management.

Drawing on his experience working in Singapore and elsewhere, Nick’s transactional practice involves advising clients on complex cross-border deals, outsourcings and group reorganisations.

Many of Nick’s clients turn to him for advice on high-profile senior hires and exits, whistleblowing, and employment policies and procedures. He regularly provides training to senior stakeholders in legal, HR and C-Suite roles.

In 2017, Nick was seconded to Uber’s Employment Law team in Singapore, where he advised on HR, employment law and remuneration issues across 19 countries in Asia-Pacific. He has also spent time on secondment to Unilever in London and Rotterdam.

With a keen interest in diversity, equity and inclusion, Nick is an active member of Linklaters’ LGBT+ network, and sits on the steering committee of our UK social mobility employee forum.

  • Astrea Asset Management on the successful defence in the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal to multi-million pound claims, including on several novel points of law not previously considered by the courts
  • Reckitt on the successful defence to a high-value age discrimination claim in the Employment Tribunal
  • CK Hutchison on the sale to Cellnex of its telecommunication towers business in six European countries.
  • G4S plc on the employment aspects of the sale of its international cash handling business across more than a dozen jurisdictions
  • Ameriprise Financial on the global employment law issues arising out of its acquisition of BMO Financial Group’s EMEA asset management business
  • a US-headquartered financial services company on terminating a highly paid employee for breach of its information security policy, and pre-action steps (including preparing for an urgent application to the High Court) to protect the client’s highly confidential information

Professional experience

Nick is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Nick has written for a number of publications on hot topics in HR and employment law. He is the co-author of “Whistleblowers: The UK Perspective”, a chapter in the seventh edition of The Practitioner’s Guide to Global Investigations (2023, Global Investigations Review).

Education and qualifications

Nick studied law at St John’s College, University of Oxford.

He is a Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts Civil Proceedings).
