Overview

Ulrich advises businesses worldwide in their transactions, such as Mergers and Acquisitions, restructurings, and financings. He advises corporate clients, financial institutions and funds and is leading the firm’s initiatives regarding Canada and Canadian clients. As a member of our German and international ESG working group, he is particularly involved in climate protection and sustainability-related matters and supports clients in the necessary transformation processes. Furthermore, his focus includes providing strategic advice on matters relating to sanctions.

Work highlights

His recent representative matters include advising: 

  • KfW (the German Federal Development Bank): advising in connection with its material participation as part of a financing round in Curevac AG and the following Nasdaq listing through a Dutch structure.
  • Commerzbank: advising on the sale of its Equity Markets and Commodities (EMC) business to Société Générale.
  • Public Sector Pension Investment Board (Canada): advising on the acquisition of HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH.
  • ABX Logistics Worldwide: advising on the integration of their German road groupage business into the Mittelstandskooperation CargoLine by way of a combined business transfer and franchise agreement.

Professional experience

Ulrich joined the German predecessor firm Oppenhoff & Rädler in 1991 and was made up as a partner in 1997. He headed and managed the London office and, after the merger with Linklaters, also the German practice at Linklaters in London. In 2002 he relocated to Frankfurt to build up the Private Equity practice there.

Education and qualifications

Ulrich studied law at the Universities of Tübingen and Freiburg. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Université de Montréal and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from McGill University in Montréal.

He speaks German, English and French.
