Board Diversity: The European Landscape

Board diversity has been on the EU Commission’s agenda since 2012 when it proposed legislation to increase the number of women on corporate boards to 40% in publicly listed companies. The focus is still primarily on gender balance, with relatively little activity to increase other forms of diversity. In its Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025, the Commission reaffirmed its desire to push for a Directive to improve gender-balance in decision-making.
