House Narrowly Passes ESG Disclosure Bill, SIFMA and States Support Climate Disclosure

On June 16, 2021, the US House of Representatives passed (by one vote) H.R. 1187, the Corporate Governance Improvement and Investor Protection Act, which would direct the SEC to issue rules within two years requiring every public company to disclose climate-specific metrics in financial statements.The legislation will now head to the Senate, and will need the support of at least 10 Republican senators to overcome the likely filibuster.
