AIFMD 2.0: Are we there yet?

Since the inception of AIFMD, the plan has always been to review the framework to ensure that it is fit for purpose. Following trilogue discussions between the European Commission, the Council and the Parliament, the final compromise text of the amending Directive was agreed towards the end of 2023.  However, as is the case with any EU “level 1” directive, the detailed rules and guidance will be found in “level 2” and “level 3” measures, and in national Member State implementation, all of which are still to be developed.
