Revision of the European Works Council Directive

In a landmark move to reinforce employees’ transnational  information and consultation rights, the European Union has  proposed a revised directive on European Works Councils  (the “Directive”). It introduces key reforms designed to address long-standing challenges.

The Directive has been approved by the European Parliament on 9 October 2025 and will be published before the end of the year. Member States  must then incorporate the Directive into their national laws by the end of 2027.
