Inside Information: Know & Tell eLearning

Training your staff how to spot inside information

Our eLearning course on how to spot potential inside information is extremely flexible and allows users to learn at their own pace and time.

Why do I need this course?

Listed companies must make sure that front line staff can spot potential inside information and know what to do with it. Failing to do this could result in hefty fines. The FCA made this obligation clear in its guidance, and when it fined Cathay and two of its directors last year for failing to disclose inside information.

Business outlooks are changing rapidly, alongside an uncertain economic climate and new technologies and ways of doing business. Now, more than ever, companies need to closely and continuously monitor whether they have inside information requiring market disclosure.

An elegant solution

This course is designed specifically for staff who might not have any previous knowledge of the inside information rules, but may well be the first within the organisation to come across what could be inside information. They could, for example, be working in finance preparing financial results or in product teams involved in R&D.

After initial training, you can also use the course as a handy refresher.

What does the course cover?

The course explains the concept of inside information in layman’s terms. It then considers a number of practical case studies highlighting how to spot when you might have inside information that ought to be escalated within the organisation. This will ensure that the issuer can comply with its obligations under the rules and avoid any pitfalls.

Your policies and other resources

There is the added ability to include links to your company’s own internal dealing code, disclosure policies and any other relevant documents.

The course has helpful links to the market abuse rules highlighting all relevant rules.

Some more information

Why use this course

The course combines the market leading expertise of our Corporate and Employee Incentives practices, with the extensive experience of our eLearning team, to deliver the highest quality training.

This course stands alongside our popular Insider Dealing eLearning course, on complying with the market abuse rules, which around 40 companies are already using. They have found this course informative and helpful in ensuring employees are aware of the impact of the market abuse rules.

“A clear, easy to understand course, presenting the information in an uncomplicated way. It is highly interactive, and simple to work through” - Electrocomponents.

We have adopted the same look and feel of our Insider Dealing eLearning course, with the new Inside Information: Know & Tell course.

Companies can choose who within their organisation should undertake this eLearning. The course includes interactive, scenario-based training with questions at key points to confirm/reaffirm the learner’s understanding. Responses to these “have you understood” questions will demonstrate how to deal with similar situations effectively.

It is easy to navigate through each screen and section of the course, combining the right mix of text, imagery and audio to deliver an effective learning experience.

The learner should then be able to spot when they have information which might be inside information that ought to be escalated within the organisation. This will ensure that you can comply with your issuer obligations under the inside information rules and avoid any pitfalls.

Customising and delivering your course

The course is delivered displaying your company logo.

The course operates within companies’ own compliance framework without the need for any changes. But we can also customise the course further if you wish; around a third of subscribers to our Insider Dealing eLearning course have had it adapted further in this way.

We will work with you to ensure the course is compatible with your learning environment. The course complies with market standard tracking software (SCORM) and can be integrated with almost any Learning Management System (LMS) or operate as a standalone course if an LMS is not available.

What about changes to the market abuse rules?

The current content is based on the law as at March 2020. We will ensure all companies acquiring the eLearning course are notified of any changes in the law, affecting the course contents, within one year of acquisition.
